The blaze began around 2 a.m., with heavy flames shooting from one of eight apartments at 11420 W. Oxnard Street, said Amy Bastman, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire then began to spread into a common attic, threatening the remaining units.
It took 66 firefighters 34 minutes to knock down the fire, she said.
Meanwhile, 31 residents who were displaced in the early morning hours were helped by the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, Bastman said. There were no injuries.
The cause and damage wrought by the fire were under investigation.
Arson investigators were on scene working to determine the cause of the blaze.
